Yale Carbon Containment Lab

Translating research into real-time climate impact

When the Carbon Containment Lab needed a platform to match the scale and scientific rigor of its climate mission, Type/Code delivered a site that made complex environmental work clear, actionable, and measurable. Born out of Yale and now an independent nonprofit, CCLab accelerates the development of carbon containment solutions with the goal of preventing 30 million metric tons of CO₂e by 2030.

We partnered early to establish a flexible brand system, complete with an environment-inspired visual language and typography tailored for dense data storytelling. From there, we developed a responsive, Statamic-powered platform built to showcase evolving research, dynamic data visualizations, and a growing pipeline of global projects.

Content was structured around a smart taxonomy of containment methods and carbon sources, helping diverse partners find relevant work. We also designed a suite of interactive visuals—stacked bars, arc charts, timelines—that scale across projects and programs to communicate progress and impact over time. What we built continues to support CCLab’s evolution, allowing them to tell deeper stories as their work matures and scales.
